Hey, laser lips! Your mother was a snowblower!

Man, I need to buy tickets to LA yesterday . The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (you know them as “the people that give out the Oscars”) are hosting an exhibit of famous animatronic character from film. On display are such memorable items as Doctor Octopus’s robot arms from Spider-Man 2 , gremlins from, um, Gremlins , and creatures from Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal .

But, to my mind, the piece de resistance (that’s French for “piece de resistance”) is none other than Number 5 from Short Circuit , aka Johnny 5. I just watched Short Circuit and Short Circuit 2 recently, for the first time in several years, and I was pleased to discover that I still remember pretty much the entirety of the former, one of my favorite childhood movies. Even Steven Guttenberg and Ally Sheedy couldn’t ruin it for me.

Plus, I’ll admit it, I got a little choked up at the end of Short Circuit 2 . I remain convinced that that movie was an excellent pilot for a TV series in which Johnny 5 fights crime on the mean streets of New York. And, while we’re on the subject, what ever happened to Short Circuit 3 ? It’s not too late!
