Enter the tweel. At first blush, it might sound like a wheel made out of tweed , but I assure you, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the tweel is an airless tire; instead of an inner tube, it uses flexible spokes between the hub and the outer tread. Ingenious! These suckers are crazy-looking, but I’m liking the idea. Pick up a nail? No problem, just pry it out again and you’re all set. Don’t worry about checking your tire pressure before a long trip.
On the downside, as some have pointed out, police will no longer be able to shoot out peoples tires or put down spikes. Though you could probably still shred the tires beyond the point of usability.
