As you may remember, the Wii was first unveiled as the Nintendo Revolution, a title which many of us got attached to. What you may not realize, however, is that the Wii has undergone a number of subtle revisions since its first announcement. Even the Wii’s iconic controller has changed a little bit, as website Destructoid shows in this interesting side-by-side comparison.
The Wiimote sports a curvier underside, and is both thicker and wider for a more comforting grip—I’m rather amazed I managed to type that entire sentence without cracking a smile. In part, the redesigned form factor is there to accommodate added features like the internal speaker, and new remote connector. The controls have also been relabeled, with the iconic Nintendo A and B buttons replaced with 1 and 2. Strangely, there does appear to still be an ‘A’ button below the directional pad, though the trigger button, which on the Revolution design was called ‘B’ is now noticeably unlabeled. Hmm. Conspiracy theorists, start your engines.
And for you who don’t understand the big whup about the Wii, well, only another four or five months to release. Guess you’ll just have to put up with it for now.
