Turns out IBM has been shipping chips to Nintendo for inclusion in the Wii for three weeks now . zOMG! I can hardly contain my excitement. I think I’ll thrown in a few exclamation marks. !!!. !!!!!!!.
Now that that’s out of my system, I can fill you in on the details. The chip is called “Broadway” (which we already knew), and it’s based on IBM’s Power architecture (the same architecture Steve “Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em” Jobs abandoned just last year). The chips will consume about 20% less energy than the “Gekko” chips used in the GameCube.
So if they’ve been shipping for three weeks, I think we can all assume safely that the console will launch sometime in October or early November. Which is pretty much what’s been predicted. So is there news here?
Not really.
