Luxology on Tuesday announced the release of
modo 203, a point update to their 3D content creation software for Mac OS X and Windows. A free update for registered users, modo 203 costs $895. A 30-day trial version is available for download.
Modo has developed a reputation for being a powerful subdivision-surface modeling software application — such tools are routinely used to create 3D models of characters and other organic surfaces. The software combines modeling, painting and rendering capabilities, and is used in game design, film and broadcast, graphic design and other industries.
New to the 203 release are enhancements to UV tools, including improvements to the unwrap tool, UV pinning and UV edition. The modo renderer is now faster — as much as 1.4 times faster than before. Ambient occlusion and full light “baking” operations are faster. Irradiance caching is optimized, as well.
What’s more, a new DXF plug-in reads and writes ASCII DXF files from inside modo, enhancing the software’s usability for architects and designers working with 2D and 3D entities saved in DXF files. Layers in incoming DXF files are automatically created as layers in the modo scene. The translator converts modo geometry into a polymesh, with vertex connectivity intact.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later and a G3 or faster processor (Intel included), 1GB RAM, 100MB hard disk space, OpenGL graphics, 1024 x 768 or greater.
