The Funimation Channel has added the anime series Basilisk and Gunslinger Girl to its offerings available for purchase and download from the iTunes Store.
Basilisk, which also airs on the Independent Film Channel (IFC) on Saturdays at 11:30 PM, follows the story of two rival ninja clans in the year 1614. The Iga and Koga clans live together in an uneasy truce when the Shogunate decides to play one side against the other in a battle to the end. Based on acclaimed manga series, Basilisk is rated TV MA.
Gunslinger Girl, which also airs on IFC at 11:00 PM on Saturdays, follows the story of child assassins — young girls — associated with the mythical Social Welfare Agency, which gives this young girls, terminally ill with disease, another shot at life using cybernetic implants. The girls are teamed with handlers responsible for their training and conditioning. The series was created by the same studio behind portions of The Animatrix, Ninja Scroll and others. It’s rated TV 14.
Both series are available on a per-episode basis for $1.99 each. Users can also buy all ten released episodes of each series for $19.90. They join three previously released Funimation series on the iTunes Store: Desert Punk, Samurai 7 and Speed Grapher.
