on Thursday announced that it’s shipping Novatel’s V740 ExpressCard, an expansion card that enables laptops including MacBook Pros to work on Verizon Wireless’ BroadbandAccess network at EV-DO Rev. A speeds. The card costs $179.99 with a two-year service agreement or $229.99 with a one-year plan.
The V740 works at an average download speed of 600 Kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second (mbps) and at an average upload speed of 500 – 800 kbps. The card works in the ExpressCard/34 expansion slot located on 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pros.
The new card is supported by Mac OS X v10.4.8 or later. Apple added support for the V740 and other wireless broadband access devices with its
WWAN Support Update, released in February.
The card features a dual-band flip-up antenna system and dual-color LED to show you when data is transmitting.
