SiK on Thursday introduced the Rex, a Front Row-compatible infrared remote control that can be stored in the ExpressCard/34 slot of a MacBook Pro when it’s not being used. It costs $25.95 and is compatible with all Macs released in 2005 or later with a built-in IR receiver.
Rex sports six buttons to control menu, select/play/pause, volume up, volume down, next/fast forward track, previous/rewind track. It works up to 30 feet with unobstructed line-of-sight to the receiver.
Sik said that Rex is compatible with TwistedMelon’s Mira software, an add on utility that enables Apple Remotes to work on Macs not equipped with Front Row, and provides additional programmability.
