Storage specialist MicroNet on Monday unveiled its Platinum NAS 4.0, a new 4 terabyte capacity SMB network attached storage server. The product, according to the company, is the first to utilize 1 TB SATA disk drives. The Platinum NAS features true hot-swappable disk drives and supports RAID levels 0, 1 and 5, including one-to-many RAID 1 mirroring and improved reliability with an integrated backplane. The NAS also includes 256MB of write-back/write-through error correcting cache memory, further improving performance, according to MicroNet. With support for Windows, Linux and the Mac platforms the Platinum NAS will be available in the second quarter and will cost $879 for the 1TB model.
