Prosoft Engineering has announced the release of Data Backup 3, a major new release of their backup and archiving software for Mac OS X. Data Backup 3 costs $59 — multi user discounts are available.
Data backup 3 lets you backup, restore and synchronize the contents of your Mac’s hard drive. You can schedule backups to occur automatically, or whenever your backup volume is connected; you can create a bootable clone of your hard drive, and you can also password-protect archives.
New to Data Backup 3 is an improved user interface. You can backup to multiple CDs and DVDs, as well, automatically spanning the archive across multiple disks. A new “Fast Start” feature skips scanning and speeds up backups; new built-in backup sets back up itunes or iPhoto files and other important data.
What’s more, Data Backup 3 can also wake your Mac from sleep in order to initiate a backup, and can automatically power down your Mac after the backup is done. You can also “go back in time” to see the structure of your files and directories as they where when the backup happened.
Data Backup 3 is a Universal binary for Intel and PowerPC-based Macs. It requires Mac OS X v10.2.4 or later.
