Iomega on Thursday introduced the Power Pro Desktop Hard Drive. The system is capable of storing up to 2 terabytes (TB) of data on four hot-swappable Serial ATA (SATA) hard disk mechanisms using a hardware-based RAID array. Compatible with Macs and PCs, it costs $1,699.95 and is expected to go on sale starting April 10, 2007.
The Power Pro connects to its host computer using FireWire 800, FireWire 400 or USB 2.0. It can be configured as RAID 0, Raid 0+1, RAID 5 or RAID 5+ spare depending on your needs. Each 500GB drive mechanism can be secured using a locking drive bay; what’s more, the RAID array can be secured to a desk using a Kensington lock.
The drive sports an LCD panel that displays the current status of the RAID array and available storage capacity, fan operation and temperature condition. Iomega includes EMC Retrospect Express backup software with the drive as well.
System requirements include Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later and G3 processor or better, including Intel.
Iomega’s Web site had not been updated with information about the new drive as Macworld posted this article.
