Hammer Storage has introduced the MyShare, a new Network Attached Storage (NAS) system that’s Mac and PC compatible. The MyShare can also share additional printers and hard disks using integrated USB ports. The first MyShare system is a one terabyte (TB) model that costs $499.
The MyShare features two internal SATA II 7200RPM hard disk drives — they can be configured in RAID Level 0 or Level 1, or set as a JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks). The MyShare incorporates one Gigabit Ethernet jack and two USB 2.0 interfaces, and works with networked Macs, Windows, Linux or Unix devices. It automatically configures itself on a network using DHCP.
The MyShare can be accessed by multiple users and administrators can password-control accounts to restrict access. Administrators configure the device using SMB/CIFS and a Web browser; the system appears on the network as an NFS volume and can support Active Directory networks as well. What’s more, MyShare can be accessed remotely over the Internet using FTP, HTTP and HTTPS protocols.
Other MyShare systems are planned, including a 2TB model expected to be released this summer.
