Rain Design on Monday announced the release of the mStand, an aluminum desktop stand for laptop computers that’s particularly well-suited for Mac laptops. It costs $49.90.
The mStand features a design that makes it look complementary to an iMac G5 or Intel-based iMac or Apple Cinema Display — the stand is crafted from a single piece of aluminum folded three times to provide the laptop with an angled perch above the desk. With a cable hole in the center an a silver anodized finish, the mStand looks very similar to the aluminum feet that prop up newer Apple Cinema Displays and latter day iMacs.
The mStand raises the laptop’s display by 5.9 inches to help get it closer to your eye level when you have it placed on a desktop. The aluminum construction helps dissipate heat, according to Rain Design.
While Rain Design said the mStand was designed with Apple’s systems in mind, the device will work with any laptops with depths less than 10.4 inches. It’s now shipping.
