DataViz on Tuesday announced the “pre-release” of
version 16, a major new release of its file translation software for the Mac. DataViz plans to ship the finished version 16 sometime in the middle of the second calendar quarter of 2007, but it’s available now as a pre-release. It costs $79.99; upgrades from previous versions cost $39.99.
MacLink Plus Deluxe incorporates a library of file translators that enable you to convert, open, read and edit files created by Windows PCs in applications that you don’t have. It also features a variety of graphic translators, including photoshop, GIF, JPEG, BMP and more. You can use MacLinkPlus Deluxe to translate PDF files into word processing formats, convert word processing files or PDFs to text and send them to your iPod, decompress file archives and more.
New to the version 16 release is support for Word 2007 for Windows and Excel 2007 for Windows as well as WordPerfect X3. It also integrates icWord and icExcel for quick viewing of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AppleWorks and ClarisWorks files.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2 or later. DataViz notes that MacLinkPlus Deluxe is not a Universal binary, but said that “the benefits of running MacLinkPlus Deluxe as a Universal application are not significant.”
Users who buy the pre-release version will be upgraded to the shipping version once it’s released.
