With Apple’s transition away from PowerPC to Intel microprocessors, we haven’t heard as much from Terra Soft Solutions — makers of Yellow Dog Linux for PowerPC-based computers. On Thursday the company announced the release of Yellow Dog Linux 5.0.1 for Apple PowerPC systems, however.
The new release adds more than 500 package updates to the Linux-based operating system. It supports PowerPC G3, G4 and G5 based systems, offers USB storage, camera and FireWire auto-mount, auto-configuration for 802.11b and support for 802.11g-based wireless networking, PCMCIA wi-fi support, audio support and more. Yellow Dog Linux now features E17 for a desktop interface.
Yellow Dog Linux is priced starting at $39.95 for a download version, $49.95 for a version on DVD.
