Sonnet Technologies on Monday introduced new storage systems as part of its Fusion line. They’re aimed at video pros and others looking for fast, large storage. The company has expanded the Fusion line with a new four-drive model, a new five-drive model and a new RAiD system.
The Fusion 400Q comes in desktop (D400Q) and 1U rackmount (R400Q) configurations. Each system can accommodate four hot-swappable hard drive modules that communicate using Serial ATA (SATA) for up to 3 terabytes (TB) of total capacity. The devices use four interfaces: external SATA (eSATA), FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. The devices feature universal power supplies, drive activity, drive presence and power LED indicators, and are compatible with SATA II host adapters. The systems are available in 2TB and 3TB capacities for $2,295 or $3,395 respectively — the desktop and rackmount systems are priced the same.
The D500P sports five swappable drive mechanisms offering up to 3.75TB of storage capacity. It can be configured as a RAID Level 0, 1 or 10 system (or as a JBOD — Just a Bunch of Disks). It communicates with the host Mac or PC using eSATA (so it requires a host eSATA card to connect — Sonnet offers them).
The D500P uses enterprise/RAID edition hard drive mechanisms, according to Sonnet — drives that are tested and configured specifically for heavy duty use. The system also employs a quiet, swappable fan. Prices run $2,495 and $3,695 for the 2.5TB and 3.7TB systems, respectively.
Sonnet also introduced the desktop D800RAID and D400RAID drives — eight-drive and four-drive SATA Raid systems, respectively. They both come with PCI Express-based host adapters and support RAID Levels 0, 1, 4, 5, 10, 50 and JBOD configurations. Pre-configured capacities range from 2TB to 6TB depending on which model is selected, and prices range from $2,195 to $6,995 depending on capacity and configuration.
