Nova media has introduced the GlobeTrotter Express 7.2 Ready, a new wireless networking card for MacBook Pros that supports HSDPA and 3G UMTS communication worldwide. It will be available in May for €299 ($405.83).
The Globetrotter Express 7.2 Ready is an ExpressCard designed to fit into the expansion slots found on MacBook Pros and some PC-compatible laptops. It communicates with cell phone networks for data communication. With High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) support, it can download at up to 7.2 megabits per second on supported networks, and up to 384 kilobits per second upload. If an HSDPA or 3G Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is not available, the device can fall back to EDGE or GPRS data transfer at up to 220 kbits/second download, 80 kbits/second upload.
Nova media includes launch2net, software developed for Mac OS X that will create an automated connection setup for mobile networks around the globe. The software includes more than 300 connection settings for specific mobile network operators, to save you the hassle of having to define custom connection settings or modem scripts.
