Innotek on Tuesday announced the release of the first public beta version of VirtualBox for Mac OS X, another virtualization environment for Intel-based Macs, this time based on open source code.
VirtualBox runs guest operating systems including to various versions of Windows, from NT to Vista, DOS, Linux and OpenBSD. The virtualization software itself is designed to work on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux — the other versions of VirtualBox debuted earlier this year.
The Macintosh beta is based on VirtualBox’s new version 1.4 codebase, and supports USB connectivity and arbitrary snapshots. It can be scripted from the command line, as well.
