iQuiz is Apple’s newest premium game for the fifth-generation iPod, available as a 99 cent download from the iTunes Store. It is a pop culture trivia game that features an open-ended architecture to support new trivia packs, and Aspyr Media has stepped up to the plate with iQuiz Maker, a free Mac OS X application that lets you make your own quizzes for iQuiz.
iQuiz Maker features a simple three-pane interface you can use to craft your own questions; you can also use it as a way to load new custom iQuizzes onto your iPod. Aspyr has already posted several add-on iQuizzes to the Web site, including “Human Anatomy,” “Cats & Dogs” and “Beer.”
What’s more, iQuiz Maker lets you customize iQuiz’s interface itself by incorporating new themes — skins that change the trivia game’s look and feel. Several themes are already included in iQuiz Maker, and several more are available for download from the Web site.
iQuiz Maker also lets you preview quizzes — an interface appears that resembles the iPod, so you can see how your iQuiz will look once it’s done. You can configure iQuiz parameters such as whether a question is true/false or multiple choice, define win and lose messages, how many questions per game, and how many questions it takes to lose a game.
iQuiz Maker is free, and for now, and it’s Mac-first. A Windows version is in the works but won’t be released until May.
Aspyr has also released Quiz Installer, another free application available for download from the same Web site. While iQuiz Maker lets you make your own games, Quiz Installer is streamlined to provide only what you need to load new quizzes onto your iPod. Quiz Installer is included with iQuiz Maker, but is also offered as a separate download in case you don’t want to make quizzes, just play them.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4. iQuiz also requires iTunes 7.1 and a fifth-generation iPod.
