Sector 3 Games has released its first game, Turret Wars. It runs on Mac OS X and Windows. A demo version is available, and it costs $19.95 to register.
Turret Wars is similar in concept to the classic game “Scorched Earth.” You man an artillery tower and you’re tasked with destroying your enemies. You have to figure out what angle your gun needs to be set at and what velocity your shells need to travel at in order to turn your foes into smoldering craters in the ground.
But while Scorched Earth was in 2D and turn-based, Turret Wars is 3D and real-time, so you have to think fast as you scope out your enemies’ locations and start lobbing artillery at them.
Players can choose from four different gun types, each with different weapons. You’ll play on four different terrain types, a choice of fighting against one to seven other computer-controlled turrets in three different difficulty levels and at different wind settings. High scores are saved online.
System requirements call for a G4 or better and Mac OS X v10.3 or later. A Universal binary, Turret Wars runs natively on Intel-based Macs, as well.
