Networking hardware maker Netgear on Thursday announced that it has acquired Infrant Technologies, creators of the ReadyNAS line of network attached storage devices.
Netgear will pay $60 million in cash for Infrant under the terms of the deal; Infrant shareholders may also get up to $20 million in cash over the next three years if specific revenue goals are met. The acquisition is, of course, subject to customary closing conditions — the companies expect the transaction to be completed during the second calendar quarter of 2007. Paul Tien, Infrant’s president and CEO, will become a vice president and general manager at Netgear.
Infrant’s ReadyNAS systems utilized a Linux-based operating system and an expandable RAID technology called X-RAID. They support Mac OS X, Unix, Windows, Linux and are also Web and FTP accessible. Designed for small businesses and workgroups, the ReadyNAS systems come in a variety of sizes and capacities, and include built in media server capabilities.
