Battery Acid Games on Wednesday introduced Biofilm, a new real time strategy game for the Mac. A demo is available; it costs $18 to register.
Biofilm isn’t based on armies of orcs or tanks smashing into each other on the battlefield, or fleets of spaceships blasting each other in the interstellar reaches. Instead, it uses bacteria swimming around in a petri dish filled with nutrients.
You’re given various types of cells to work with: basic, enhancer, freezer, bomber, glower and provider, and you must use strategy and planning to figure out how to defeat the other cells in the dish. The full game features two campaigns and 15 mini-levels.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later, G5 or Intel, and ATI Radeon 7000, Nvidia GeForce 2MX or Intel GMA950 graphics or better.
