NewerTech on Thursday announced Guardian Maximus, a new external RAID storage system that features FireWire 400, FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 interfaces. It’s available in five pre-configured capacities ranging from 250GB to 1.0 terabytes (TB), priced starting at $319.99.
Guardian Maximus is a hardware-based RAID Level 1 storage system — data is mirrored across each drive mechanism, so in the event of drive failure, the system continues to work without any loss of data. The device displays front-panel LEDs that give you drive status and access information.
Guardian Maximus sports two FireWire 800 9-pin interfaces, one FireWire 400 6-pin interface and a single USB 2.0 “B” style port. It measures 9.3 x 2.8 x 5.6 inches and comes with an international switching power supply. cables are included.
All of the drives used in the Guardian Maximus chassis run at 7200 RPM, some with up to 32MB of drive cache. Additionally, an “Add Your Own Drives” kit is available for $179.99.
System requirements call for Mac OS 8.6 or later. 10.2 or later is required for FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 support. Software is included with the drive.
