WiebeTech on Thursday introduced its ToughTech XE mini, a new pocket external hard drive enclosure with four interfaces, designed to accommodate 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drives. Prices start at $119.95 for an empty case.
The ToughTech XE mini features external Serial ATA (eSATA) and USB 2.0 interfaces in a single port. Two FireWire 800 interfaces are also included. WiebeTech includes with the case a FireWire 800 cable, FireWire 400 cable and a USB 2.0 cable that plugs in to the eSATA port; the device also includes a FireWire 400 to FireWire 800 interface adapter.
The ToughTech XE mini sports “ToughMount” strips between the drive and the enclosure to protect the drive from shock, and to reduce enclosure noise. An AC adapter is also included (though not necessary if you’re using the drive with a built-in FireWire 800 interface).
In addition to the empty enclosure, WiebeTech is selling the unit in 80, 100, 120 and 160GB versions for $219.95, $301.95, $259.95 and $273.95 respectively. The 100GB unit costs more because it’s a 7200RPM drive. All configurations ship June 1, 2007.
