Microtek on Wednesday took the wraps off its ScanMaker s450, a $99 flatbed scanner aimed at home office users. The Mac and PC-compatible scanner features photo imaging and document imaging capabilities.
The black-clad device scans at 4800 x 9600 dots per inch in 48-bit color. A built-in 35mm transparency adapter enables you to scan entire filmstrips — up to five frames — or up to four 35mm slides at a time. The s450 connects to a Mac or PC using USB 2.0.
Other features include a “Zero Boundary” design that let you scan bound pages up to the inner margin without distortion, “ColoRescue” automatic color restoration and eight “Smart Touch” buttons that activate pre-programmed scanning tasks.
Mac software bundled with the scanner includes Microtek’s ScanWizard 5 software, Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Acrobat Reader. Other software for OCR and photo management is also included for Windows.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3 or later and 128MB RAM.
