MaxUpgrades has announced the release of
max_flow, an auxiliary cooling system for the main memory of Mac Pro systems. It costs $45 or $79 for the upper riser card or upper and lower riser cards, respectively.
The Mac Pro’s fully buffered DIMM (FB-DIMM) memory modules can get quite toasty. Get them warm enough and they can produce ECC errors, the interface between the heat sink and the memory module can break down, and the system can slow down or start to malfunction.
The max_flow compensates for that by whisking away hot air from the memory modules, removing heat trapped between the fins and lowering the temperature around the FB-DIMM. This helps ensure system stability at peak load and usage, according to MaxUpgrades, and enhances safety and reliability as well.
