WiebeTech’s new RTX drive enclosures enable you to install bare SATA drives without using trays, screws or anything else to complicate things. They’re available in one, four and six-drive units for $229.95, $2599.95 and $2699.95 respectively.
With the RTX enclosures, you open the door, insert a drive, and close it to get it working. The concept, says WiebeTech, is to enable you to use SATA hard disk drive mechanisms with the same ease of use you were once accustomed to using floppy disks — have a stack handy and insert them into the computer as needed.
The one-drive model features FireWire, USB 2.0 and external Serial ATA (eSATA) connections, and ships with cables, a power cord and information CD.
The four- and six-drive models can be used as JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) enclosures, but can also be configured as RAID devices. The four-drive model is available in iSCSI, UltraSCSI, eSATA, Steel Vine and Infiniband variants, while the six-drive model is available in iSCSI, UltraSCSI and eSATA versions. Both of the multi-drive models feature handles for easier portability.
