Periodik Labs on Wednesday announced the release of Elektron 2.0, RADIUS server software for securing Wi-Fi networks. It costs $750 per server; upgrades cost $225.
Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service, or RADIUS, is a common method of authentication and authorization for networked environments. Elektron 2 enables RADIUS support on Mac OS X and Windows servers, providing authentication, authorization and accounting capabilities.
Enhancements to Elektron 2 include support for Cisco’s EAP-FAST protocol, remote monitoring using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), enhanced authorization and multiple domain authentication. A new cryptographic module has been added that enables Elektron 2 to qualify for use in government and financial businesses that require FIPS 140-2 validation.
No additional software is needed for Wi-Fi users connecting as clients to an Elektron 2-enabled network. The software works on Mac OS X server systems running Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later.
