Backbase on Tuesday announced that its Enterprise AJAX software suite will support the iPhone, along with Safari 3 and Mac OS X v10.5 “Leopard.” The Backbase Software Development Kit (SDK) enables developers to create “Web 2.0” applications using Asychronous Javascript and XML (AJAX).
Apple announced plans to support AJAX as a way of creating software for the iPhone at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco earlier this month. Developers have been split on whether that’s a good or a bad thing; some are disappointed at the absence of a truly native SDK for the iPhone, but Apple CEO Steve Jobs said that using Web 2.0 standards lets developers create innovative software for the product while keeping it secure and reliable.
Backbone also plans to release widgets and other software components designed to utilize the iPhone.
