Iomega on Tuesday introduced its new
eGo USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive and the eSATA/USB 2.0 Professional Hard Drive. They are Mac and PC-compatible and are priced at $159.96 ad $209.95 respectively.
The eGo comes in a cherry-red chassis with chrome endcaps and features a 160GB 2.5-inch hard disk drive mechanism. It’s USB-powered, so you don’t need an external power supply, and it ships with EMC Retrospect HD backup software. The drive incorporates DropGuard technology to protect it from accidental damage if it’s dropped.
The eSATA/USB 2.0 drive sports an external serial ATA (eSATA) interface, and features 500GB of storage capacity. It’s designed for advanced graphics, video editing, file serving and other performance-intensive tasks. It comes with EMC Retrospect Express. No Macs yet ship with eSATA pre-installed, but tower Mac users can install a PCIe-based eSATA interface. For those that don’t, the drive also supports USB 2.0.
The eGo is compatible with Mac OS X v10.1.5 or later; the eSATA/USB 2.0 Professional Hard Drive requires Mac OS X v10.2 or later.
Iomega’s Web site had not been updated with information about the eSATA/USB 2.0 Professional Hard Drive as Macworld posted this article.
