Other World Computing on Tuesday announced the release of a 200GB version of its Mercury On-the-Go external hard disk drive. The drive costs $359.99.
The new Mercury On-the-Go uses a 7200 RPM drive mechanism for fastest possible performance in that form factor. It uses Hitachi’s 7K200 mechanism, which OWC claims works up to 50 percent faster than other 7200 RPM drives.
The drive features FireWire 800/400 and USB 2.0 interfaces; a model featuring external Serial ATA (eSATA) is also available. Included with the drive is ProSoft DataBackup III for Mac OS X.
The company also offers a 250GB model that works at 5400RPM for $319.99. It’s compatible with Mac OS 8.5 or later.
