Quark on Thursday announced the release of QuarkXPress Server 7.2, a new version of its automation software for design houses, prepress companies and others who base their workflow around QuarkXPress 7 page layout software.
QuarkXPress Server 7 is aimed at businesses and system integrators who need to have customized Web-to-print and Variable Data Publishing (VDP)-based systems for the creation of advertisements, catalogs, one-to-one mailings and one-to-many creative materials.
New to the 7.2 release is new Extensible Markup Language (XML) capability that enables QuarkXPress content to be repurposed to other systems, such as e-mail, Web and other content delivery methods. The software supports HTTP, SOAP, .NET, ASP, PHP and JSP, and includes a Java manager as well.
The new version also provides the ability to centrally configure additional servers, load balance and report errors; incorporates improved output accuracy using QuarkXPress Job Jackets, and supports Intel and PowerPC-based Macs.
System requirements call for a Mac Pro or Xserve, 8GB RAM, 150GB available hard disk space at TCP/IP-based network. QuarkXPress Server 7 also requires Mac OS X Server v10.4 and Java J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.5.
