CrossComm has released Lumina, a casual puzzler aimed at iPhone users. It’s a remake of the classic 1980s-era electronic game Simon, in which you have to press four colored squares and repeat the sequence of colors and sounds the computer produces.
Lumina is free to play — it’s designed to fit the iPhone’s screen and it’s also designed to be fun to play on the iPhone, and if you want to share your scores with other players, you can create an account and log in to it to record your score for posterity.
CrossComm president Don Shin said that Lumina exists as a proof of concept to show that rich content can be produced using HTML, JavaScript and AJAX — the technology that Apple offers to developers who want to create software to run on the iPhone. He confessed that CrossComm, whose expertise lies in developing Web content using Flash and Java, were initially disappointed by Apple’s decision.
“We found that these technologies exceeded our expectations in creating rich Internet applications,” said Shin.
Since Lumina is using regular Web technology to work, you can even get it to work on your lowly old Mac, if you’re not waiting in line to buy an iPhone somewhere, yet.
