JiWire is a mobile broadband advertising network that offers what it bills as the world’s largest public Wi-Fi directory. The company on Tuesday announced the introduction of an iPhone-optimized version of its Wi-Fi Finder.
The iPhone can access the Internet using AT&T’s Enhanced Data GSM Environment (EDGE) data network, but it also features Wi-Fi wireless networking capability. When it’s in the proximity of a Wi-Fi network, the iPhone can access data over the Internet much faster than using EDGE. JiWire’s Wi-Fi Finder helps you locate public Wi-Fi networks near your location. The tool lists 150,000 public Wi-Fi networks in 135 countries worldwide.
You can narrow your search to locate only free Wi-Fi networks, or all available networks, and you can get maps and driving directions using the iPhone’s built-in mapping function. You can also click to call Wi-Fi locations whose phone numbers are registered with JiWire.
