MicroNet Technology’s newest PlatinumNAS Plus Network Attached Storage (NAS) server features a built-in iTunes server and space for up to four terabytes (TB) of storage. Prices range from $799 for the 1TB system to $2999 for the 4TB model.
The PlatinumNAS Plus is aimed at small and medium businesses and small office/home office (SOHO) customers. It uses a Web-based management tool to enable users to administrate access control and file protection. It works equally well for Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.
The PlatinumNAS Plus hardware utilizes a network-optimized Intel IOP RISC processor and four independent Serial ATA (SATA) drive channels. Each SATA disk drive is hot-swappable, and the system sports automatic RAID setup and rebuilding capabilities.
The RAID controller supports RAID Level 0, 1, 5 and Just a Bunch of Disks (JBOD). the device features two Gigabit Ethernet controllers with support for multiple subnets. Network services include support for TCP/IP, SMB/CIFS, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), FTP and WebDisk protocols. It also supports Active Directory natively.
The PlatinumNAS Plus comes with two USB 2.0 expansion ports that can be used to expand capacity with larger external hard disks. An unattended download manager with scheduler lets users arrange FTP, BitTorrent and HTTP transfers during off-peak hours.
