LaCie’s new Big Disk Extreme+ comes in capacities up to two terabytes (TB) and comes equipped with three interfaces — FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. The new PC and Mac-compatible drives are available now starting at $350.
The external hard disk drive utilizes two internal drive mechanisms pre-configured in a RAID Level 0 array. The system can lay flat or upright, and can also be rack-mounted if you desire. The drive also feature’s LaCie’s new “Shortcut” button on its face, which will automatically launch any application including the included EMC Retrospect backup software.
Inside the drive case the mechanisms spin at 7200 RPM and feature 32MB of combined data cache. The drive connects to a Mac or PC using one of two FireWire 800 ports, one Firewire 400 port or one USB 2.0 port.
Available in 1TB and 1.5TB configurations for $349.99 and $599 respectively, a 2TB model is coming in August for $849.
The new drive requires Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later.
