Intego on Monday announced the public beta release of FileGuard X4, data protection software for Mac OS X. FileGuard provides “virtual safes” for files you want to keep confidential.
FileGuard X4 lets you choose which files or folders you’d like to protect, unlike Apple’s own FileVault software, which requires you to encrypt an entire home directory. You can create as many safes as you need for different types of files, send files to others, and store files on servers or external disks while still maintaining security.
FileGuard X4 sports drag and drop support or the ability to create new file safes from the Intego menu. Safes will increase in size automatically as you add more files, so you don’t need to resize them manually. You can also set read and write permissions for safes stored on shared volumes.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4 or later and 20MB hard disk space.
