Bare Bones Software on Monday announced the release of BBEdit 8.7, a significant update to its text editor for Mac OS X. A free upgrade for BBEdit 8.5 and 8.6 users, BBEdit 8.7 costs $125.
BBEdit sports HTML and text editing capabilities and has a variety of editing, searching and text manipulation features. It includes grep pattern matching, search and replace across multiple files, FTP and SFTP open and save functions, AppleScript and UNIX scripting functions and more.
New to the 8.7 release is support for the Lua programming language, along with improvements to file groups and disk browser workflow features, and the ability to use Finder-based Smart Folders as sources for Text Factory and multi-file search operations.
The new release can also remember open documents on quitting and reopen those documents the next time it is launched. An all-new Python language module has been added with support for code folding, refinements have been made to the the FTP/SFTP and Disk Browser windows, improvements have been made to AppleScript and more.
