Extensis on Wednesday announced the release of Portfolio Server 8.5, a major new release to its digital asset management software for Mac OS X and Windows. A free upgrade for customers with a current service agreement, the software costs $6,050.
Aimed at marketing and creative workgroups, Portfolio Server 8.5 provides a way to manage digital assets used in everything from print publications to Web and more. It works in conjunction with a desktop client interface, Web browsers and now offers direct integration with Adobe Creative Suite 3 applications.
The software’s new Project Sync feature is the key to CS3 applications — it lets you search, archive and automate Web delivery from within CS3 apps, using Portfolio Server as the central repository for tracking that information. The software works with Adobe Bridge and other CS3 apps.
Other new features in Portfolio Server 8 include faster catalog creation using preconfigured Catalog Types; automatic metadata capture; a Presets Palette that helps users apply consistent and standardized metadata; a new Assets Log for online NetPublish assets; improved support for Adobe Illustrator and InDesign CS3 file formats; enhanced EPS and PDF support; and support for new Raw camera formats.
Portfolio Server 8.5 supports Mac OS X v10.4.4 or later, 1GHz G4 or better (including Intel), 512MB RAM, 500MB hard disk space, QuickTime 7 or later.
