Mac OS X 10.4.10 is the first Mac OS X update in which the last number (.10) is two digits long. Not all programs are happy about that.
Apple’s Remote Desktop may incorrectly claim that OS X 10.4.9 is running. More problematic, some installers may refuse to run. If you encounter any problems, first check for an update of the balking program. If there’s not one, there is a work-around—temporarily change the contents of your Mac’s SystemVersion.plist file (in /System/Library/CoreServices ) to disguise your system as OS X 10.4.9.
Open the file in BBEdit’s free TextWrangler and change the two instances of 10.4.10 to 10.4.9. (You’ll need to provide an administrator’s password to unlock the file when requested.) Finally, save the altered file. After you’ve finished installing the problem program, you can change the .plist file’s numbers back.
Caution: It’s always a bit dicey to modify System folder files. If you’d rather not risk problems, wait for an update.
