Addonics Technologies on Tuesday introduced its 4 port eSATA RAID5/JBOD PCI-E 8x Controller, an expansion card that enables Mac Pro users to add external Serial ATA (eSATA) to their system. It costs $199.
The card is SATA and SATA II-compliant. It transfers data at up to 3 gigabits per second, and supports native command queuing, port multipliers with FIS-based switching, and up to 2 meter cable lengths.
The card features on-board RAID firmware that enables users to configure the four external ports as RAID Level 0, 1, 5, 10 or 1+S systems; you can also use the drives as a JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks).
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4.8 and a Mac Pro.
