Newer Technology on Tuesday introduced its miniStack NAS, a Network Attached Storage system. Prices start for $79.99 for a “do it yourself” version that ships sans hard drive.
The miniStack NAS comes in seven configurations in addition to the DIY version, in capacities ranging from 80GB to 750GB, all featuring 7200RPM hard disk drive mechanisms. They’re priced from $129.99 to $329.99.
The miniStack NAS borrows its styling cues from Newer’s miniStack hard disk drive, designed to match the Mac mini. It measures 6.5 x 6.5 x 1.5 inches and features lights on its front that show its status.
The miniStack NAS can hold up to 750GB of storage capacity, and connects to the network using a 10/100baseT auto-switching Ethernet port. It can accommodate up to 20 users simultaneously, according to Newer. The device uses Ximeta’s Network Direct Attached Storage (NDAS) technology. An integrated USB 2.0 port lets you connect the miniStack NAS directly to a host computer as well.
Included with the miniStack NAS is Prosoft Engineering’s Data Backup 3 software, NovaStor’s NovaBackup and Intech SpeedTools Utilities.
