HandBrake, the free, open-source DVD to MPEG-4 conversion software for Mac OS X and other platforms, has been updated to 0.9.0. The new version is available for download.
HandBrake makes it possible to convert DVD VIDEO_TS folders to MPEG-4 movie format, making them compatible for playback on the Mac, iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) and other devices that support the MPEG-4 codec. As open-source software, HandBrake is free to download and use.
The 0.9.0 release utilizes a new user interface; improves picture quality with better image scaling, improved interlacing, new filters for denoising, deblocking and other features; improves speed; adds new presets including a preset for the iPhone; and boosts stability. It also supports MP4 files larger than 4GB.
HandBrake requires Mac OS X v10.4 or later. It’s a Universal Binary. Advanced users can optionally download a Command Line Interface (CLI)-based version instead, which requires Mac OS X v10.3 or later.
