Aspyr Media is working on a Macintosh conversion of Neverwinter Nights 2, Macworld has learned.
The news comes as word of Aspyr’s work on Neverwinter Nights 2 has leaked out from a placeholder page on Amazon.com and elsewhere. While Aspyr was not able to offer an official press release stating so as this article was posted, an Aspyr spokesperson did confirm the news on Tuesday.
Neverwinter Nights 2 is a fantasy role playing game set in the land of the Forgotten Realms, a popular setting for Dungeons and Dragons players. It’s the sequel to an earlier game developed by BioWare and published for the Mac by MacSoft. This installment of the series was created by Obsidian Entertainment, developers of Star Wars: Knights of the OId Republic II.
Neverwinter Nights 2 utilizes authentic Dungeons and Dragons rules in order to provide as accurate a computer role playing game as possible. The PC version also includes extensive editing tools to let users make their own games. Alas, the Mac version will once again lack those tools (the same limitation existed with the Mac conversion of the first Neverwinter Nights game). Neverwinter Nights 2 will be able to play user-created modules from the PC however.
More details including system requirements and expected release schedule are anticipated.
