Red Sweater Software on Tuesday announced the release of MarsEdit 2, an update to the weblog software for Mac OS X. The software can be downloaded for a 30-day trial — it costs $29.95 to register. Upgrades from previous versions cost $9.95.
MarsEdit enables users to post entries to a variety of different blog types without having to rely on a Web-based interface. It works with Blogger, WordPress, TypePad, Movable Type, LiveJournal, Drupal and Vox. The software also supports text editors like BBEdit, SubEthaEdit and others, lets you upload images and files, works offline, is AppleScriptable and more.
New to the 2.0 release is the ability to scan your Flickr library and insert images into your blog post. The interface has been extensively reworked, supports markup macros, reworks its post editor, adds new printing support and makes a number of other enhancements.
This marks Red Sweater Software’s first major upgrade to MarsEdit since acquiring the software from Ranchero Software, the original developers of NetNewswire.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4 or later. MarsEdit is a Universal binary.
