Epson America on Tuesday introduced two new compact photo printers — the PictureMate Dash and PictureMate Zoom. Both devices are shipping now for $99.99 and $199.99 respectively.
The two new PictureMate printers share common features — they’re both capable of printing 4 x 6 inch borderless prints in 37 seconds. They each sport 3.6-inch color LCD displays. They let users automatically resize photos and offer a dozen and a half layout options, including five new portrait layouts, all without needing a computer. They can print 2 x 2 inch, 3 x 3 inch, CD index and portrait packages, wallet size, mini wallets, digital size, U.S. passport photos and jumbo wallet-size images. You can also print color, black and white or sepia-toned images.
The two printers also features a “Print by Date” option, and both feature built-in memory card slots with support for all popular memory card types — the devices can also be used as card readers for a Mac or PC when connected by USB. The printers are PictBridge-enabled, and can also support Bluetooth using an optional adapter.
Where they differ is that the PictureMate Dash is a dedicated photo printer. The PictureMate Zoom also features a built-in CD burner that enables you to back up images from your camera’s memory card directly to CD.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later, PowerPC or Intel-based Mac.
