MicroNet Technology on Thursday announced its new Fantom Drives G-Force MegaDisk Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliance. It comes in 1.0 terabyte (TB), 1.5 TB and 2.0 TB configurations for $339, $579 and $999 respectively.
The G-Force MegaDisk employs a RAID configuration for its large storage capacity, and it includes zero-touch backup software using a five-user license of NTI Shadow, which is Mac OS X-compatible. The G-Force MegaDisk also has a built in iTunes server that can share MP3 and MP4 content, including content purchased from the iTunes Store that is properly authorized.
The device supports CIFS/SMB, NFS and FTP file protocols and works with Mac OS X (v10.2 or later) and various versions of Windows. Inside there are two SATA300 disk drives configured as either a RAID Level 0 or Level 1 system. You control the Ge-Force MegaDisk’s settings using a universal Web interface. It can also accommodate additional storage using a dual USB interface, which can also be used to attach a printer to make the device a print server. It even features an unattended BitTorrent download manager, enabling users to download large files during non-peak hours.
MicroNet’s Web site had not been updated with information about the new G-Force MegaDisk NAS as Macworld posted this article.
