Sonnet Technologies has introduced its Fusion R800RAID, an 8-drive Serial ATA (SATA) disk array storage system aimed at pro video editing and pro broadcast. Coming this month, the R800RAID will be priced starting at $5395.
Compatible with Mac OS X, Linux and Windows operating systems, the Fusion R800RAID includes a PCI Express-based RAID host adapter card that support RAID Levels 0, 1, 4, 5, 10, 50 and JBOD configurations. The storage device itself occupies 2U in a rackmount, and contains hot-swappable drive enclosures. Sonnet sells the system equipped with enterprise-level SATA hard drives in total capacities ranging from 4 terabytes (TB) to 8TB.
The system can handle single-stream 2K LOG RGB capture and playback, 10-bit 1080 4:4:4 HD or multiple streams of DV, HDV and DVCPRO in various configurations, according to Sonnet.
Sonnet sells the unit pre-configured in 4TB, 6TB and 8TB configurations for $5395, $6995 and $8895 respectively. 500GB, 750GB and 1TB RAID drive modules cost $299.95, $499.95 and $724.95 respectively.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3 and a Power Mac G5 or Xserve G5 with PCI Express slots or better.
