Toon Boom Animation on Friday announced the release of Toon Boom Studio 4, a major new version of its animation software for Mac OS X and Windows. Toon Boom Studio 4 costs $329.99; upgrades from previous versions are available.
Toon Boom Studio is billed as an “all-in-one” animation software package. It works with digitally-drawn animation, scanned hand-drawn animation and imported artwork. It lets you publish for television, HDTV, the Web and iPod. The software lets you create animation frame-by-frame, using key-frame techniques, cut-out and photo styles.
New to Toon Boom Studio 4 is a new user interface; the ability to to animate bitmap images (like photos) like vector drawings, extended line styles, the ability to feather edges, more “Peg” functionalities to improve motion effects; advanced Web publishing options; and more than 30 other new features and improvements, like support for Adobe Illustrator layers, a Vectorize Preview window and Alpha onion skinning and more.
System requirements call for a G4 or faster, including Intel, 512MB RAM, 120MB hard disk space, 24-bit color display with 8MB or more VRAM.
