Mark/Space has announced The Missing Sync for Symbian, a new data synchronization tool for Mac users who use Symbian OS-based smartphones from Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson. It’s expected to be released in the first calendar quarter of 2008 and will cost $39.95 as a download.
Mark/Space makes a number of Missing Sync products, which enable Mac users to exchange data and multimedia with smartphones and other portable devices including Palm Treos, Sony PlayStation Portables (PSPs) and Windows Mobile devices. The software includes features not accessible to users who depend on iSync, and enables devices that aren’t otherwise Mac-compatible to work.
Symbian OS phones include the Motorola Z8, Nokia N95 and Sony Ericsson P1 models — more than 50 million units in 2006, according to Brian Hall, Mark/Space’s president and CEO.
The Missing Sync for Symbian will feature the ability to synchronize contacts, calendar events and tasks, music, photos, files and video, using Apple’s own Sync Services as the delivery method. As a result, it works with products like iCal, Address Book, iPhoto and iTunes, Microsoft Entourage 2004 and Chronos SOHO Organizer. Multimedia capabilities will enable users to drag and drop DRM-free QuickTime videos onto The Missing Sync, which will automatically encode them and transfer them to the Symbian device.
Mark/Space will also offer a version on CD after the online debut for $49.95. Crossgrades will be available for users of existing Mark/Space products.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later.
